CMS, one of Scotland’s fastest growing manufacturers, has been named in an influential report by the London Stock Exchange as one of the top 1000 most exciting and dynamic businesses in Britain.
The 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain 2016 report, which contains a foreword by the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, along with other leading politicians in the business community, identifies CMS as one of only 56 Scottish firms and a handful of companies in the door and window industry that are inspirational in their success to date and growth potential.
London Stock Exchange Group CEO, Xavier Rolet, describes these 1000 businesses as the ‘engine of the UK economy’ because they help create an ‘antifragile’ SME economy which is more robust, more flexible and less prone to boom and bust.
With growth from a £1.4m turnover business to a £35m company in just 10 years, CMS puts its success down to a sustainable business strategy which provides a range of high performance ‘building envelope’ solutions with the flexibility to suit the varied market demands. The company works with local councils, housing associations and housebuilders across Britain, along with developers and the country’s leading building contractors to deliver a wide range of commercial buildings, including offices, student accommodation, schools and hospitals.
At the helm of CMS since its inception is Andy Kerr, a UK winner of the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2015. He says: “It’s fantastic to be recognised by the London Stock Exchange and feature in their Top 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report. Our rapid growth is testament to the fact that having a truly sustainable business strategy – environmentally, socially and economically – is key to being successful in today’s ultra-competitive market. “It’s also a reflection of the hard work of our talented workforce, ourselves inspired by the large number of younger workers in our team. By having one of Scotland’s most active Modern Apprenticeships programmes and company-wide development opportunities, we have shaped an extremely capable workforce who constantly offer fresh ideas and keep us at the top of our game.”
CMS provides a total building envelope package which upgrades the thermal performance and visual appeal of any building to roof height through the installation of external wall insulation (EWI) and cladding solutions, in addition to designing, manufacturing and installing windows, doors and curtain walling. All its solutions ensure Britain’s housing stock and buildings can achieve 21st century energy and comfort standards by fabricating products using the best available components from industry leading supply chain partners like Kawneer, Metal Technology, Sheerframe, Yale and Saint-Gobain. Based at Castlecary near Glasgow, CMS operates a 15-acre manufacturing and recycling facility as well as an additional recycling plant in Fife.
