CMS Window Systems has been named a winner at the prestigious European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE), proving its credentials as one of the most sustainable businesses in Europe.
CMS has excelled in the face of tough competition from companies across Europe to come top in the ‘management’ category for medium and large companies. The overall winner from the four shortlisted companies was announced at the EBAE awards ceremony, held at the historic Seaplane Harbour in Tallinn, Estonia, on October 27th. CMS now joins a host of eminent previous winners of the category, including Marks & Spencer, which won the award in 2012 for its renowned ‘Plan A’ environmental initiative.
The European Business Awards for the Environment are awarded by the European Commission every two years. They aim to recognise and reward European companies which set an example by successfully bringing together innovation, economic viability, environmental considerations and social equity. CMS was the only company in the UK window and door industry to be nominated following its success in the VIBES (Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland) Awards in 2015, in which it won the ‘Management (SME)’ category.
CMS, which has been at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing, recycling and energy performance for more than a decade, impressed the judges at the EBAE Awards with a unique combination of products, processes and initiatives. A fundamental element of CMS’s sustainable business operation is the company’s Innovation Hub, which was created to showcase some of the most advanced and sustainable building envelope products available to the UK building industry, as well as its ground-breaking recycling schemes including its latest glass reprocessing initiative with Saint-Gobain Glass.
Andy Kerr, Managing Director at CMS said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been named a winner at the EBAE Awards. It’s a testament to the hard work of everyone in the team, and the commitment they’ve shown to helping put sustainability at the forefront of everything we do.
“Environmental and sustainability issues are central to CMS’s business strategy. As the business landscape evolves, it’s great to have the opportunity to show the European business community how sustainability is a help, not a hindrance, to success.
“Our focus on environmental, economic and social sustainability has had a very positive effect on our long-term business success and our ability to service clients effectively – we hope that our EBAE Award win allows us to set an example for other businesses to follow.”
Gillian Bruce, chair of the VIBES Awards, commented: “Congratulations to CMS Window Systems on their fantastic success at the EBAE Awards. It was excellent to have VIBES winners represent Scotland on the European stage this year and we are thrilled that CMS has been recognised internationally for its commitment to sustainable development - it is very much deserved.”
